ETA from Debra: Speaking of contests, we have the WINNERS of our voice contest to announce! We were seriously impressed with the massive display of talent that flooded our comments section--and so was Hannah! Some of you might even have caught some of her judging-related comments via twitter over the weekend. If not, here's a sample of some of her tweets:
@hannahmosk 10 finalists! I've read up to 12:10 AM on April 29th. Seriously, so many great entries--I'd believe at least half came from published books.
@hannahmosk I have to admit, after reading 50 of these entries, I'm developing a bias against the ones that mention the hero's eye color.
@hannahmosk There are SO MANY great entries here that I have to judge them like poetry. Every single word has to be good. This contest != real life.
@hannahmosk Some of these entries are interesting but not in a voicey way. And since that's what I'm looking for, I can't choose you for your plot.
@hannahmosk :D winner picked and top 5 sent. You all were GREAT and should be proud regardless. and you can ALWAYS email me with questions.
We couldn't agree more--you all WERE great! Now, drumroll please, as we announce Hannah's picks!
5th place: Shannon O'Donnell
4th place: Amna
3rd place: SuzanneWrites
2nd place: Kara
And in 1st place--MARGO! YAY MARGO! Please, contact Debra at houndrat at yahoo dot com for instructions on claiming your 30-page manuscript critique!
As for the rest of you--I know Taylor's reading through these as she finds the time, so don't be surprised if you get an invitation to equery her. Also--Hannah has graciously offered to answer any questions about her judging process, so please, leave your question in the comments section, and we'll make sure she sees it.
You all are so talented--we can't wait to see your books published in the future. Whatever you do, don't give up!
Thanks again to Hannah, for judging, and to everyone who entered, for making our contest so successful! We <333 our followers!
