Flashback Friday: Hunger Games Tribute

'Create
Welcome to Week Nineteen of Flashback Fridays where the old and new collide on everything from books to movies to first loves to favorite vacations. This week we're flashing back to Tuesday's release of Mockingjay, the final installment of the Hunger Games trilogy.

I have to admit I'm a late Hunger Games reader. I actually only read the first book two weeks ago. I waited because I wanted to be able to read all three at one time. I have to say it was well worth the wait, and I immediately fell in love with Katniss, Peeta, and the series. I think it's message of love, sacrifice, courage, first love, and determination is truly inspiring for both teens and adults. I'm thrilled they will be making a movie version. So, after the readathon on Tuesday, it was only fitting that we pay a little homage to the series.

Want some Hunger Games attire? You can find t-shirts at Hot Topic & Zazzle

Wanna try your own hand at the Hunger Games? Then you can purchase Training Days: The Hunger Games Board Game. (Peeta not included)

It seems that having "teams", aka a love triangle, is the hip thing in YA literature. I mean, we have Team Edward and Team Jacob. And of course, there's the argument of whether you are Team Peeta or Team Gale. That got me thinking of potential "teams" in classic literature....

Team Darcy

Team Wickham

TEAM BRANDON
TEAM WILLOUGHBY

TEAM RHETT
TEAM ASHLEY

So tell us your Hunger Games memories....what "team" are you?
*Psst, we'll give you another chance to win an arc of Nighshade by Andrea Cremer.
Remember to leave a comment and tweet the contest, and you're in like flynn!

Well, I think this will always haunt me for ever, but I pretty much threw a fit and screamed into my pillows, then promptly threw them across the room. I was reading on the kindle app for the PC, so I couldn't throw my laptop across the room. I read that book in 4-5 hours straight, just like i did the first 2.

I'm a team Peeta girl, but Gale is one of my favorite characters.

I was totally Team Peeta....he had me from the bread story where he got beaten for giving a starving Katniss bread. Sighs...Although I did want to slap Katniss from time to time and go, "Can't you see what an awesome guy you have that's in love with you? What is your problem?!" But I loved her anyone.

I'm with you Krista. Sometimes Katniss was so frustrating like when she hits Peeta after the interview with Ceaser Flickman and he confesses that he's in love with her or at the end of the first book when she tells him on the train ride back that everything was for the cameras. I liked Gale as a character, but never really saw anything more than friendship between him and Katniss

I LOVE the tag on this post. I am a crazy Peeta fangirl, ya know, it's all good.

Peeta to stay with, Gale to sleep with at least once. Isn't that always what it comes down to, your hormones fighting against which one is a better mate for the long run?

I got so hooked ... I bought the hardbacks new. Even pre-ordered Mockingjay.

[I'm the cheapskate who buys mass paperbacks ... mostly used.]

I read the Hunger Games series because of a book club at my school and I gotta say, Peeta is da bomb!

Team Peeta, of course. *spoilers* What Gale did in Book 3 could never be totally brushed aside.

Also, Team Ashley.

What about Team Dickon vs. Team Colin?

I haven't read any of The Hunger Games books yet, but I'm on it, or I will be soon. The board game looks so cool! I'm SO team Rhett. He loved Scarlett all along :)

Augh, Anna, that's an awesome suggestion! I've been meaning to watch The Secret Garden again--the version from the 90's. Gah, I love that movie and story.

Najela, I wanted to throw my copy across the room(of MJ), but I was so emotionally crippled and worn out that allI could do was just sit and stare into space for awhile!

HAHA, Leah, I'd be the same way about Peeta...man, what a guy

Laurie, he might melt my cake before he could ice it in all honesty.

Kay, don't feel bad. I got HG and CF off Ebay.
